Our Swedish ancestors are all traced to Kronoberg County, a rural area in the country’s south. Our last ancestor born here was Warren Fagerland’s paternal grandmother, Mary Johannsdotter-Fagerland (born 1849). The last ancestors buried in Sweden are Mary’s four grandparents: my 4GGPs Anders Nilsson and Ingrid Nilsdotter and Mans Olsson and Chirstin Torkelsdotter, who were all alive in 1800.
Kronoberg has been recognized as a county since 1674. Here is the Kronoberg County page on FamilySearch. Its only city is the capital, Växjö, with a population of 85,000. The parishes where our ancestors lived include Slätthög, Göteryd, Pjätteryd, and Kånna. 4GGPs Mans and Chirstin are buried at Kånna Church, a 12th century structure built on the site of a previous stave church. After 4GGF Anders Nilsson died, Ingrid moved to Jönköping County (to the north), where she remarried. I don’t know where she spent the last years of her life. She was frail and certainly didn’t have any more children.
