Peter and Anna spent their entire adult lives in Fond du Lac County, WI. Anna arrived as a child immigrant less than four years old, so she must have spoken English without a German accent. Their children were:
Bernard (1872, Marshfield, infant death), Peter, Rosa, Louise * , Mary, Anna, Henry (Marytown), Bernard, Helena, and Amelia (1889).
In a 2012 email, my grandmother, Peter’s great-granddaughter Eileen Korb-Beck, recalled the colorful story that she’s heard about Peter’s death:
“Grandma (Louise) Korb’s father was killed by lightning. The story goes that some of the horses were killed too. They were coming home from the field — just unhitched from the equipment and headed for home. The mother (Anna) had her teeth knocked out of her mouth. Strange! Don’t know if she was out there too or —– just near by??”
Both are buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Marytown, WI. (Marshfield is three miles to the south).
