Simeon and Abbie probably met as teenagers in Kossuth County, IA. Their families both happened to be in Jewell, KS when they married, waiting out a few bad farming years. They returned to Iowa in about 1881, right about the time that Simeon and Abbie started having kids. Their children were Mae (b. 1880), Bertha, Amy, Franklyn, Roy, Charles, Lawrence Albert “Burt”, Lottie*, Henry, and Marie (b. 1902). They then moved to McHenry County, ND in 1903. Marie only lived to be four, so the picture below must have been shortly after their move to ND. They relocated one more time to Pierce County, ND in 1910, and spent the rest of their lives there.
Granddaughter Loretta Meyer-Fagerland’s memories: “”They always seemed old to me. G&G Wiltse lived with us part of the time. Grandpa Wiltse had asthma and was never well.” Here they are later in life, in the upper right of this family photo.
Simeon and Abbie are buried together at Union Cemetery in Knox, ND. I visited their grave in 2015 and got a grave rubbing.
